Volunteer Opportunities

Shelter Committee-General care of animals, maintenance of shelter and associated paperwork therewith, provide clean and sanitary sanctuary, nutritional food,  health examinations, pre-adoption vaccinations and worming, veterinary care, socialization of animals, returning lost animals, adopting and fostering animals, answering phones, interaction with potential adopters at shelter. Donations of the shelter supplies are always welcome. The following items are regularly needed: dog food, (dry and canned), puppy food, dog treats, chews, & toys, collars and leashes, cat food, (dry and canned), kitten food, cat litter, cat toys, towels, Dawn dish soap, bleach, Scotch brand scrubbers. Contact the shelter to find out our current needs.
Usually needed during normal shelter hours.
Position needed at this time:

Fund Raising Committee-Helps with raising funds to support organization.
The society usually holds a fund-raiser once a month.  In addition, there are several ongoing projects.  Grants are prescribed by the deadline set in the grant.
Position needed at this time:

Humane Educational and Public Service Committee-Works with emphasizing the importance of responsible and proper pet care to children and adults and promoting public awareness of the organization. Provides free or reduced rates for spay/neutering, distribution of printed literature available at the shelter, advising citizens of local and state ordinances, public service announcements through local media, giving programs to area civic organizations.
Opportunities available on an as needed basis.
Position needed at this time:
 

Pet Therapy Sub-Committee-Involves taking animals from shelter to area nursing home residents for them to pet and hold.
Time is coordinated with homes.  Usually the third Saturday morning of the month.
Position needed at this time:  Someone to head up this program

Adoption Committee-Works with coordinating Sunday schedule to show animals at Easter's, keep statistics of number of animals impounded, adopted, claimed, relinquished, euthanized, etc.  Send letter to adopters who have not altered their animals pursuant to law.
Sundays at Easter's and ongoing times.
Position needed at this time:

Membership Committee-Involves updating lists of members, preparing quarterly newsletters, gathering and disseminating membership fees, forms and card.
Yearly and ongoing.
